Albergue Olimpico
Built to offer the Puerto Rican athlete better conditions for its sports training, the Albergue Olimpico is the most complete center in the island not only for high performance athletes, but also for the general public. It has all the most efficient facilities to celebrate recreational, sports, educational and health activities.
Based on the common phrase "promoting sports it is improved the quality of life" this institution offers services to thousands of visitors that yearly travel through its installations whether to train, to be entertained or to be amused in a place where harmony and tranquilly reigns.
The Albergue Olimpico is a center whose territorial expansion of 1,500 cords permits to group 17 sports facilities. Among which are found: multiple use courts, a baseball complex, an aquatic center, tennis courts, besides gymnasiums and different sports rooms.
The Albergue Olimpico constitutes a main training complex for the Puerto Rican Olympic Committee (COPUR) confederacies, students of the School Specialized in Sports , by professional athletes, by local sports associations and international confederacies associations, among others.
These sports facilities are suitable to celebrate recreational activities, like family gatherings and camping organized by public, private institutions or companies, through the whole year.
Besides, the Albergue Olimpico offers visitors the opportunity to be lodged in their Athletes' Village (Villa de los Atletas), which offers food service and lodging for 496 persons at the same time. On the other hand, the Albergue Olimpico becomes a family center when the public visits and enjoys its water parks, aviary, botanical garden, recreational parks and the Puerto Rican Sports Museum.
Health has its share in this complex, harboring the Sports, Health and Workout Sciences Center (in Spanish, SADCE), administered by the School of Medicine of the University of Puerto Rico . It provides physiology, physical therapy, ophthalmology, orthopedic and psicology services to federative and professional athletes, and is also dedicated to the scientific investigation of sports medicine in general.
Additionally, the Albergue Olimpico shelters the School Specialized in Sports. It was founded to become the training center of the best youthful sports talent in the island. Currently, the school is directed by the Department of Education and possesses a registration of 200 students among seventh to twelfth grade.
The resident students of the School participate of sports programs including the disciplines of athletics, boxing, cycling, judo, lifting of weight, swimming, skating, taekwondo, tennis, and shooting.
Besides, the Albergue Olimpico is developing new attractions for the public. By means of a comprehensive development plan, the Albergue Olimpico is aimed to develop projects as the Museum of the Tree, an Outdoors Amphitheater, a Golf Course, and a Bowling Center , among others.
The Albergue Olimpico will continue being a center of social, sports, educational, and cultural encounters for the sportsman as for the general Puerto Rican or international community.
