The development of sports from a cultural historical point of view
The mission of the Olympic Museum of Puerto Rico is to offer the Puerto Rican community the sporting exploits of the twentieth century from a cultural perspective. This is done by highlighting in its exhibition rooms, education programming and Centre for Documentation and Research, the values and principles of our athletes and how they contributed to the betterment of our society. Its exhibition rooms, dedicated to Eugenio Guerra, Julio Enrique Monagas and Rieckehoff Germain, trace the history of sports in Puerto Rico from the pre-Columbian period through the end of the 20th century. The information provided, its objects, photographs and memorabilia allow us to appreciate the development of sports from the cultural historical perspective and its contribution to our history as a nation. The permanent and temporary exhibitions will benefit students, scholars of sport and all the people who want to know more about our sport feats. The temporary exhibitions will travel to different parts of the island spreading the appreciation and knowledge to those who do not have the opportunity to visit the museum.
El desarrollo del deporte desde el punto de vista de la historia cultural
La misión del Museo Olímpico de Puerto Rico es ofrecer a la comunidad puertorriqueña la gesta deportiva del siglo XX desde la perspectiva cultural, donde se destacan los valores y principios de nuestros deportistas y cómo aportaron al mejoramiento de nuestra sociedad, a través de sus salas de exposiciones, su Programa de Educativo y su Centro de Documentación e Investigación. A través de sus salas de exposiciones dedicadas a Eugenio Guerra, Julio Enrique Monagas y Germán Rieckehoff, recorreremos la historia de la gesta deportiva de Puerto Rico desde el periodo precolombino hasta finales del siglo XX. La información provista, así como sus objetos, fotografía y memorabilia, nos permitirán apreciar el desarrollo del deporte desde el punto de vista de la historia cultural y su aportación a nuestra trayectoria como nación. Las exposiciones permanentes y temporeras beneficiarán a estudiantes, estudiosos del deporte y todo el público que desee conocer nuestra gesta deportiva. Las exposiciones temporeras viajarán a distintas partes de la isla permitiendo el acceso a la apreciación y conocimiento a aquellos sectores de nuestro pueblo que no tengan la oportunidad de visitar el museo.
